While this program is completely self-paced, I provide a schedule for implementing the full Interior Kingdom Program over the course of 5 or 8 weeks. You could of course implement it in less time OR take longer - whatever will work best for your family. Once the program has been fully implemented, it then functions like many of the secular ‘calm corners’ would - you simply use the concepts from the program to aid in everyday emotional regulation for your whole family!

This is truly a program for the WHOLE family! The scripted family lessons will be most appropriate for kids ages 2-12, but suggestions for how to adapt/present the materials to teenagers are also included. The imaginative framework of the program (as mentioned above) can be brought to each child's developmental level with parental guidance - but the same core materials can be used for all ages. One teen who watched the course remarked that he knew himself so much better after going through it. And trust me - toddlers and teens are pretty similar in terms of emotional regulation! While your teen may roll their eyes at the games, being able to learn coping skills is invaluable at any age.

Absolutely! Some key aspects about Interior Kingdom that make it neurodivergent friendly include direct teaching and learning through engaging, hands-on family lessons, along with modeling from parents/caregivers; lessons are brief in nature (~10 minutes each), perfect for short attention spans; it engages the five senses for coping skills, helping all family members to become more attuned to their sensory needs; and the 'game'-like nature of the program makes it fun (vs. feeling tedious/boring). This also allows for predictability OR variability in the process of emotional regulation, according to each family member's preference.

While we do recommend creating a 'Kingdom Corner' if at all possible, you do not necessarily *have to* do this. As we are helping children to think of their emotional states as the Kingdom *within*, we can show them that they are capable of navigating different emotional landscapes, no matter where they may physically find themselves! In the Interior Kingdom e-course, you'll learn how to create a 'portable set'. One benefit of having a 'portable set' vs. one designated space in the house: sometimes with sibling squabbles, each child needs distance from each other in order to regulate. If you have multiple 'sets’; you can set each child up in a different space for reflection and then toggle between the children to help them towards regulation. Lastly, a 'portable set' allows you to take it along in the car, to a playdate, a relative's house, etc.

Interior Kingdom includes evidence-based research on emotional regulation. We utilize some of the best therapeutic modalities as well, including the Circumplex Model of Affect, Polyvagal Theory, TBRI (Trust Based Relational Intervention), Family Systems Theory, Play Therapy, and more! (But don't worry - you don't have to know all of them! That's what I'm here for.)

Perhaps you wouldn't consider 'playfulness' to be your greatest strength. BUT once upon a time you were a child and rediscovering that part of yourself IS possible. At first it might feel hard and unnatural...but give it time and you'll find that you remember how to do this. All of the materials that accompany this program were designed to facilitate creativity and curiosity. Guided Scripts are provided for presenting lessons to your children in a fun, creative manner. There are also additional handouts on Ideas for Playful Engagement available as part of the Parent Resource Set. Lastly the good news is that kids are play EXPERTS - they will likely 'take the reins' and all you'll need to do is follow their lead!

Absolutely! As a professed Catholic myself, it was absolutely vital to me that this program would adhere to Church teachings, and incorporate many of the components that we treasure most about our faith. However, in my career, I have also had extensive experience partnering with non-denominational churches and clients. As such, I was confident in my ability to create a program that could serve ALL Christians - because there are NO faith-based emotional regulation programs out there, and any family who is seeking to serve God and get their family to heaven NEEDS THIS. It was intentionally designed to be ecumenical in nature - with Catholic roots, but easily adaptable for all other Christian denominations. In my heart of hearts, I believe that we have more in common that what divides us. However, for those Christians uncomfortable with referencing the saints (or Mary as Queen), you can simply opt NOT to use those components - *without* compromising the integral structure of the program. Instead you'll focus on King Jesus as the primary figure and also draw upon the Holy Spirit and God the Father as 'Friends of the Royal Court'. To facilitate this, you'll notice that some of the pdf files are marked "Christian version" - which means the elements above have already been left out of the scripted guides or printables.

Yes! We would highly recommend getting started with doing your own emotional regulation work PRIOR to having children (if at all possible). It will be so much easier to establish reign of your own Interior Kingdom prior to being exhausted and triggered by the challenges that come with parenting. Think of it as investing in preventative care for your future family!
